Mini Kawaii Sugar Cookies for Kuu Kuu Harajuku Dolls!

Helloooo there! Today I am very excited to be a sponsored blog partner with Mirum to bring you all a recipe for Mini Kawaii Sugar Cookies inspired by the Kuu Kuu Harajuku dolls (#ad)! Kuu Kuu Harajuku is an adorable TV show about a girl band that loves kawaii style, and it’s based on the Harajuku Lovers brand by Gwen Stefani. When they approached me about working together, I was SUPER pumped because I’ve always absolutely loved Harajuku Lovers and kawaii style, so I thought it was the perfect collaboration. 😄

If you follow Kawaii Sweet World, I’m guessing you probably know all about kawaii style 😝 But in case you’re new here, “kawaii” is just the Japanese word for cute! It’s become a major trend in tween and teen fashion in Western culture, and it describes all things tiny, bright, and adorable. If you love kawaii style like me, you’re going to LOVE how cute these dolls are! I have a younger cousin (hi Dahlia!) who is about 5 years old, and I know we’re going to have lots of fun playing with these next time she comes over.

Whether it’s through colorful makeup, innovative clothes, or an endless collection of hair clips and charms, there’s all kinds of fun possibilities with Kuu Kuu Harajuku! #DuYuKuuKuuHarajuku

With all that said, let’s make some kawaii cookies that would be a perfect treat for you and your dolls! This would be a great activity to do with younger siblings, cousins, or anyone that loves dessert (and cute things)!

First up: wet ingredients! As per most cookie recipes, start off by creaming together the butter and sugar. Then add in milk, vanilla, and an egg yolk. Feel free to mix this by hand!

Then add in the flour..

And mix it all up! It should come together nicely without having to add more milk.

Once it’s all combined, plastic wrap it up and pop it in the fridge for about 30 min (or 20 min the freezer if you’re in a rush/impatient/desperately craving cookies).

Then roll it out on a floured work surface until it’s about 4mm thick.

And cut out some cookies! I recommend going for some small doll-sized ones and some person-sized ones too so you don’t have to spend ages decorating 100 dime-sized cookies 😛

Bake at 350F for 5-7 minutes until lightly browned on the bottom ridge! Look at these cuties!!

After that, add on some royal icing and spread it out with a toothpick.

Add sprinkles to some and maybe a kawaii face for others 😝 Just keep in mind that you’ll have to let the icing set for about 2 hours before trying to add on the face!

And you can add white dots in the eyes with small white sprinkles. Use a toothpick to help place them!

And you’re done!!

They’re the perfect size for your Kuu Kuu Harajuku dolls! Enjoy!!

Once again, big thanks to Mirum for sponsoring this post!! 😄 I’ve always been such a big fan of Harajuku Lovers (I have at least five of the bags, the perfume collection, and t-shirts!), and I was thrilled to work with them on this recipe!

Instructions
Macarons
  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat egg whites until foamy, then gradually mix in sugar. Beat for about 6 minutes, or until stiff peaks form
  3. Into a separate bowl, sift together powdered sugar and almond flour. Whisk to combine, then toss into egg white mixture and fold just to combine. Note: Don't try to achieve the perfect macaron batter consistency here if you're going to color your batter! This is because you'll need to keep mixing once you add in the food color.
  4. Scoop desired portion of batter into a separate bowl and color with gel food color. Mix until batter runs off of spatula slowly but continuously. Transfer batter to a piping bag or Ziploc bag.
  5. Pipe batter onto prepared baking sheet into desired shapes. Preheat oven to 300 F.
  6. For mini macarons, let rest for 15-20 minutes or until you can lightly tap the macaron and your finger doesn't stick. For full-size 1" macarons, let rest for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes. Macarons should come off baking sheet cleanly.
Buttercream Frosting
